Non-Discrimination Policy

Policy Statement

Sarvamangala Society is committed to creating and maintaining a workplace where all volunteers, employees, clients, partners, and visitors are treated with dignity and respect. We uphold a zero-tolerance stance on discrimination and strive to foster an inclusive environment that values diversity and equality.

Purpose

The purpose of this Non-Discrimination Policy is to:

​

  • Provide equal employment opportunities and treat all employees and applicants fairly without regard to race, colour, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, marital status, amnesty, or status as a covered veteran in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws.

  • Promote a work environment that is free from discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.

  • Outline responsibilities and expected behaviours within the organization to prevent discrimination.

  • Establish procedures for addressing complaints and concerns regarding discrimination.

Scope

This policy applies to all employees, volunteers, interns, contractors, and individuals who have a working relationship with Sarvamangala Society. It encompasses all workplace activities, including recruitment, hiring, training, promotion, compensation, benefits, transfers, layoffs, return from layoffs, company-sponsored training, education, social and recreational programs, and retirement.

Definitions

  • Discrimination: Treating individuals differently or unfavourably because of their race, colour, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or any other characteristic protected under applicable law.

  • Harassment: Unwelcome conduct based on a protected characteristic that is offensive, fails to respect the dignity and worth of an individual, and creates a hostile, intimidating, or offensive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Management: Ensure this policy is applied consistently across all departments and levels. Address any instances of discrimination immediately and effectively.

  • Employees: Adhere to this policy and report any discriminatory practices.

  • HR Department: Provide guidance and support in implementing this policy, and manage complaints and investigations professionally and confidentially.

Prohibited Behaviour

Behaviors that violate this policy include, but are not limited to:

​

  • Verbal or physical conduct that belittles or shows hostility toward an individual because of their protected characteristics.

  • Displaying material that ridicules or disparages individuals based on their protected characteristics.

  • Excluding individuals from certain positions, activities, or opportunities based on their protected characteristics.

Complaint Procedure

  • Any employee who believes they have been subject to discrimination or has witnessed discriminatory practices should report the incident to their supervisor, HR, or any member of management they feel comfortable with.

  • Reports can be made without fear of retaliation. All complaints will be investigated promptly and impartially.

  • Confidentiality will be maintained to the extent possible during the investigation.

Corrective Actions

  • Individuals found to have violated this policy will face appropriate disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

  • Sarvamangala Society will also take measures to prevent further occurrences of similar behaviour.

Training and Communication

  • All employees will receive training on this Non-Discrimination Policy.

  • This policy will be communicated through internal channels and included in employee handbooks and onboarding materials.

Policy Review

This policy will be reviewed annually and updated as necessary to ensure it meets legal requirements and reflects the values of Sarvamangala Society.
